During your first visit to the audiologist, a full case history, audiological evaluation and tinnitus screening will be done to assess if you will should require further treatment. The audiology evaluation may consist of a battery of tests including:
- Pure tone audiometry
- Identifying minimum tinnitus masking levels
- Tinnitus pitch and loudness matching
- Distorted potential otoacoustic emissions (DPOAE)
Remember to schedule adequate time for a more comprehensive evaluation.
In the event where the audiologist discovers that you suffer from any of the following:
- Sudden hearing loss
- Physical trauma
- Objective tinnitus
- Injury or pain to head and neck
- Ear infection
You may be referred to the an otorhinolaryngologist for medical care before the tinnitus treatment can begin.
