Noise-induced hearing loss is 100% preventable. Potential damage from noise is caused by the loudness of the sound and the amount of time you are exposed to it. You can protect your hearing by avoiding noise levels at or above 85 dB in loudness. Reduce the sound level if you can. An example would be lowering the volume on personal stereo systems and televisions. If you cannot get away from or reduce the sound level, wear earplugs or other hearing protective devices. Be sure to protect children’s ears as well.
